A "very good quality of education" and a "clear vision" with inspirational leadership were what HM Inspector of Schools found at Helensburgh's Hermitage Academy.
Schools Inspector Mary Ritchie visited the Academy in June and was so impressed that there will be no follow-up inspection.
In her report she said: "The school has taken very positive and innovative steps to develop its curriculum, in line with Curriculum for Excellence.
"Senior staff provide an outstanding quality of leadership and support in taking the curriculum forward. In the best practice, planned tasks and activities are highly relevant to young people's lives and interests, and give them choices about different ways to learn.
"Young people are developing and using their literacy and numeracy skills well across different areas of their learning and the school librarians make a valuable contribution to this aspect of the school's work.
"While the school does not yet provide all young people with two hours of good quality physical education, it promotes physical fitness and healthy lifestyles very strongly."
