HELENSBURGH is to be the test-bed for a very local lottery - and organisations throughout the area could all be winners through the ground-breaking initiative.

If the local pilot proves a success, the "Our Town Lotto" will be rolled out across the country.

Our Town Lotto Ltd, which runs with the slogan "the local lottery for local causes", is the brainchild of Helensburgh couple Colin and Joan Stewart and it encourages local people to support local groups and events by taking part in a lottery restricted to their own area.

In this case the first Our Town Lotto will provide funding for local groups and causes throughout Helensburgh and Lomond and shops, other business and local clubs and organisations are all being encouraged to join in and sell the £2 tickets.

The draw will be monthly and the top prize is going to be £1,000 with two prizes of £50 and 10 of £10.

The monthly draw will be held on the last Saturday of the month and the first will be held on October 30 with the tickets going on sale on September 20.
