A POLICE campaign to protect the lives of young cyclists is being mounted in Helensburgh.
Following complaints about youngsters riding bikes with no lights, without helmets and on the pavements, Helensburgh police officers are to start a safety campaign.
And they have warned parents that if their child is found to be riding an unsafe bike or without a helmet THEY will be charged.
A police spokesman said: "Cyclists on the pavement are a big issue in Helensburgh and we have also had reports of a few paper boys who are not wearing reflective gear and, in some cases, do not have lights on their bikes.
"This is very dangerous. They are out on the streets at 5 and 6 o'clock in the morning when it is still quite dark and other road users just can't see them."
