Guest of honour Walter Smith will present the awards.
This week the Advertiser is proud to launch the Helensburgh and Lomond Community Spirit Awards 2012.
The awards, run by the Advertiser in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Helensburgh Garelochside and YOUR Radio, are designed to pay tribute to the people who work selflessly to make our community a better place in which to live.
Between now and April, we will be asking readers and YOUR Radio listeners to make nominations in seven categories - and the winners, to be chosen by a panel of judges, will be announced at an awards ceremony in the Victoria Hall on April 30.
Special guest on the night will be football legend, the former Rangers manager Walter Smith, who will present the awards.
Each category is being sponsored by a local business.
Rotary president Sheenah Nelson said: "We are very pleased to be launching the awards for 2012, because we know from previous years that there is a huge desire in the community to recognise the unfailing efforts of many people to make the Helensburgh and Lomond area a better place in which to live and work.
"We are fortunate to live in an area with a very strong sense of community and many people are active in a range of spheres which contribute to the quality of life."
Advertiser editor David Carnduff said: "The success of the awards is down to the involvement of Advertiser readers whom we depend upon to make nominations.
"I would ask our readers to look at each category and think carefully about who they would like to nominate. You can name as many people as you like and all names will go before the judging panel who will have the very difficult decision of ultimately choosing the winners and finalists."
Provost Billy Petrie has welcomed the launch of the awards for 2012.
He said: "The awards are an excellent way for the community to show appreciation to those people who contribute a huge amount to the quality of life we enjoy here in Helensburgh and Lomond.
"I would encourage readers of the Advertiser to get actively involved in making nominations so that the awards can build on the success achieved in previous years."
