B&B holiday that doesn't cost the earth
AN eco-friendly break at a Helensburgh B&B has been offered as a top prize in a national competition.
The stay at Balmillig was one of the prizes in a competition, run by the Energy Saving Trust in Scotland, which aimed to highlight the best of green tourism.
Offering the choice of five top 'Gold Green Business Award' rated destinations, as well as train travel from anywhere in Scotland, the competition will see the winner pick their favourite for an eco-friendly break as a part of the trust's on-going work to promote sustainable travel.
Four runners-up will also be selected to win a weekend break at one of the other premier hotels.
The competition showcased some of Scotland's best green tourism destinations as well as encouraging people to think about how to travel sustainability.
Among the prizes are stays at Huntingtower Lodge, just outside Fort William, The Gleneagles Hotel, Balmilig B&B in Helensburgh, Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh and the Radisson Blu in Glasgow.
Ian Murdoch, the trust's transport manager, said: "This competition really helps to highlight to holiday makers that it's possible to use public transport to get to a weekend break.
"As an organisation, we want to demonstrate that travelling needn't have a massive environmental impact - especially if you can go by train and then stay at a green accommodation provider."
