ARTIST'S impression of the arts centre.

It is hoped that Helensburgh Heroes community arts centre, which will boast two cinema auditoriums, 50s style diner, a conference centre and education space, will be open by the end of the year.

The three-storey Victorian warehouse and goods yard on George Street will be transformed and is set to cater for the entire community.

Phil Worms, of Helensburgh Heroes charity, which is behind the plans, said the charity is progressing well and is at the detailed stage of the plans.

He said: "We are looking at the detailed design internally and looking at the finer details such as what sort of tiles we will have. We have an outline business case so we are progressing well and hope to have the facility open by the end of the year.

"We have also been busy collecting fantastic memorabilia, such as an original Baird television, which will be displayed inside the building.

"It is definitely going to be an exciting year."
