Crime halves in six weeks
Crime levels in Helensburgh town centre have almost halved in six weeks.
The new figures follow a crackdown by police to target the level of reported violence, anti-social behaviour and drug misuse, particularly at the weekend.
Extra patrols have been monitoring Burgh streets and the surrounding area since December 5, as the police station adopted a new shift pattern to put more officers on the streets.
Inspector Paul Robertson said: "In the last six weeks, from a disorder perspective, we have seen a significant decrease in the overall complaints for general disorder - in excess of 40 per cent.
"The action plan is having the desired affect and we hope to maintain this through increased resources for the whole area, by putting more police on the streets, especially at night.
"The new system means we are targeting the right people at the right times."
Areas of focus have been the town centre, Kirkmichael, Churchill, Arrochar and Cardross, where additional patrols have been used to combat high levels of crime."
The newest statistics compare levels of crime from September to December last year, before the new shift pattern was launched in a bid to catch and deter persistent offenders.
