Curling competition reaches half-way mark
THE James Sharp competition has now reached half-way in the round robin stages.
Positions on the leader board are changing rapidly as teams experience varying fortunes.
Ronnie Dunachie has won his last two games.
He crushed Adam Clark 12 shots to two before going on to record a fine win against Preston Fleming 11 shots to four.
For the moment, he goes top of the league. Two points behind but with a game in hand are Ronnie Morrison and Jonathan Clinch.
Ronnie bounced back from a defeat at the hands of John Laverty with a win over Derek Bowman six shots to three.
Jonathan had been top but lost to Jim McHale who showed some sparkling form in a seven shots to one victory.
A further point but with two games in hand are Alastair Woodburn and John Laverty.
John has leapt up the leader board with wins over Ronnie Morrison and Stuart Smith.
At the bottom half of the table Ron Cromar was up against Robert Cornwell.
Ron stormed away to a convincing lead in the first four ends
but Robert fought back in the later stage, not enough though, to prevent a further defeat six shots to nine.
Ron's win lifts him out of the crucial bottom two places.
Robert Cornwell experienced a welcome reversal in fortunes when he went on to win the President's Trophy. 24 Helensburgh curlers travelled to Greenacres for a competition where each
person kept changing team and playing position throughout the evening.
After a convivial meal Robert received the trophy from Club President Ronnie Morrison (pictured).
With just one game to go in the round robin stage of the Brunton Miller competition Bob Park is assured of his place in the play-offs.
Just one point separates four of the remaining five teams.
Archie Fulton, Crawford Howat, Jim McHale and Hugh Sweeney will battle it out over the remaining three places.
