A FORMER nightclub in Helensburgh is to be converted into a new frozen food store.

Farmfoods, who already operate a small shop in Sinclair Street, have applied for planning permission to change the former BJs Nightclub on East Clyde Street into a retail food outlet with associated parking.

The proposal includes the demolition of the old nightclub and erection of a new store. Neighbourhood notices have been issued to nearby residents.

The application by Farmfoods, which is based in Cumbernauld, comes in the shadow of the ongoing controversy over the siting of a new supermarket in and around the town.

The existing premises were erected on the site for the former Millig Pub and operated for many years as a public house and restaurant/disco before being converted into a nightclub.

The business was closed after complaints from neighbouring residents saw opening hours restricted.
