President George Tait welcomed members and guests from surrounding clubs as well as previous presidents of Helensburgh.

Immediate past president Hugh Murray was thanked for his year in office and present was presented with his green blazer, tie and past presidents badge by the new president.

President Tait also presented Mrs Joan Murray with a commemorative plaque in appreciation of her opening of the greens in 2013.

Hugh Murray then presented the club champion of 2013, Alan Air, the youngest in the club’s history, with his championship medal.

Murray also presented members of the club’s A team, who enjoyed a successful GBA Cup League campaign, with their medals.

Keith Tait, Iain MacDonald, Gordon Stephen MBE, Nick Cudby, Alan Air, George Sneddon, Andrew Sneddon, Hugh Murray, Allan Howie, Alec Moffat, Iain MacLeod, Robin Cavana, Walter Jamieson and John Stead all received medals to mark the victory.

Nick Cudby was also presented with the Neil Thomson Trophy for winning the Friday night carpet bowls competition.

Finally Murray presented the winners of the Lennox League in 2013 with their medals.

The winners were Stephen Hepton, Alisdair Cameron, Robert Begg, Gordon Stephen MBE, George Tait, Alan Air, Allan Crawford, Nick Cudby, John Pearce, Melville Matheson, Walter Jamieson, John Stead, Allan Howie, Bobby White, Andrew Sneddon and Eric Wallace.

Allan Howie, the gents captain then requested Sharon McCann to open the greens for 2014.

Sharon threw the first jack and bowls of the year and declared the greens open for 2014.

Members and guests played a eight end game and retired to the clubhouse to enjoy a meal prepared by the ladies of the club.

The result of the game was the president’s team 32 shots, the captain’s team 30 shots after an appropriate recount.
