The Derek Nonhebel Lectures were held to commemorate the work of Mr Nonhebel – who was a well known scientist and educationalist and passed away from Alzheimers last year.

They focused on topics he was interested in such as science and missionary work across the world.

Joan Young, church secretary at Helensburgh said: “The lectures went very well, I think the organiser Neil Allison was absolutely delighted with them.

“We had about 50 people turn up to each lecture every night which was an encouragement.

“We were very, very pleased with the response.” There are already plans to hold a further series of lectures next year, with more details on these to be confirmed.

The next event to be held at the Church will be Change the World School of Prayer, which will be held on Saturday, September 19 from 10am to 5pm in Helensburgh Baptist Church.
