The third sector grant applications are considered twice a year in April and August, and Helensburgh and Lomond has £35,000 allocated by the council for distribution.

At an area committee meeting on Tuesday, April 8, councillors allocated funding to the community groups – including events and festivals.

Ardencaple Football Club requested £1,000 but was given £500 by members to help the club purchase 10 sets of four-a-side goals for training and festivals to be held in and around Helensburgh.

The Bicentenary Pipe Band Championships received £4,000 towards the costs.

The annual Helensburgh and Lomond Highland Games and Rosneath Peninsula Highland Gathering were both awarded £4,000.

Cove and Kilcreggan Lunch Club was awarded £450 of the £1,047 requested to provide social activities.

Cove and Kilcreggan Youth Cafe received £1,500, to help the cafe form a football team and contribute towards a seasonal youth worker.

Gareloch Branch of the Riding for the Disabled Association was granted £2,200 to meet the costs of caring for an additional two horses to meet the increase in demand from disabled riders, which has doubled in three years.

Helensburgh Addiction and Rehabilitation Team received £1,000 to help up to 20 service users access a source of exercise and fitness opportunities, especially swimming, to complement their existing therapies and recovery plan.

This year’s Helensburgh firework display will be given a boost after £4,000 was awarded to the Helensburgh and District Round Table.

The ‘emergency’ funding to support the display is following a ‘disastrous’ year in 2013 and to facilitate the creation of the contingency funding plan for future years.

Helensburgh Cricket and Rugby Football Club received £2,225 to further develop a street rugby programme in areas such as Kirkmichael, Garelochhead and Rosneath to improve participation in hard to reach areas.

More people will be encouraged to take part in the Lomond and Clyde Community Orchestra as the group was awarded £1,960 to develop an outreach programme.

Project 81 Youth and Community Enterprise Limited was granted £1,708 to provide food hygiene training for 10 volunteers and intergenerational Christmas dinner for the Senior Citizens Lunch Club.

And the Rosneath and Clynder Senior Citizens Association was granted £260 to help provide two coach trips in summer and winter for senior citizens in the area.
