About 34 naval units from eight allied countries and some 13,000 military personnel took part in exercise Joint Warrior.

As part of the exercise, troops from the UK, US, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Turkey and Norway will display a broad range of military skills in a realistic setting.

Before the exercise commenced two French warships were berthed at Glasgow’s King George V Docks, while HM Naval Base Clyde hosted Royal Navy Flagship HMS Bulwark as well as US, Dutch and Danish vessels. Also descending on the Scottish Naval Base are 200 additional personnel – many of them Reservists – who will help coordinate the exercise and establish the Joint Warrior Operations Centre. Leading the naval contingent is Royal Navy Flagship HMS Bulwark with the Commander of the UK Task Group using the vessel to command the UK’s Response Force Task Group. The objective is to give all three UK armed services and international partners the chance to train for the challenges of modern warfare. Skills practiced include: maritime task force training; anti-submarine warfare; mine countermeasures training; counter piracy, narcotics and insurgency; close air support; logistics support; and electronic warfare training.
