The John Muir Songcycle has been created by Rhu flautist and composer Louise Burnet for two choirs and instrumentalists and the performance at The Tower, Sinclair Street, Helensburgh at noon on Saturday, April 26 will draw heavily on local talent.

Louise has taken John Muir’s beautiful writings and has set them to music. The songs will be interspersed with instrumental interludes, inspired by the spectacular scenery along the new John Muir Way.

In addition to writing all the music, Louise and her dog have walked/cycled the new route from Helensburgh to Dunbar (130 miles) and Louise has taken a series of photos along the route. During the performance these photos will be projected onto a large screen to coincide with the tuneful, uplifting music.

The launch of the John Muir Way in April will tie in with the 100th anniversary of John Muir’s death.

The new walking, cycling route will allow everyone to explore the nature and landscapes of Central Scotland.

And Louise hopes, through her music, to inspire and encourage people to get outdoors and to enjoy the natural history and historic features along the Way.

The John Muir Songcycle is an Artsqwest project and thanks are due to Argyll and Bute Council and Scottish Natural Heritage for their support. The duration of this world premiere in Helensburgh will be approximately 50 minutes and tickets are available from the Helensburgh Visitor Centre and Visit Helensburgh and from www.ticketsource.co.uk.
