The Babcock Helensburgh Summer 7 road race, organised by Helensburgh AAC, gets under way on August 10.

Organisers hope runners will be inspired by the Commonwealth Summer to sign up for the inaugural event.

The Babcock Helensburgh Summer 7, which replaces the Helensburgh Half Marathon, will come under starters orders in the very heart of Helensburgh in the refurbished Colquhoun Square at 9.30am on Sunday, August 10 and will follow a seven-mile loop around the town before finishing in Hermitage Park.

It will provide an ideal challenge for those new to running and the chance for seasoned competitors to post a guaranteed personal best at an unusual race distance.

There is an extensive prize list across a number of age categories, plus every competitor will receive a goody bag and a specially-struck commemorative medal.

Race entry will cost £10 for Scottish Athletics affiliated runners, or £12 for those unaffiliated.

Damien Theaker, race director, said: “We are very excited about putting on this new event, which will really showcase Helensburgh and comes at a great time just after what will be an inspirational Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. HAAC’s events are always superbly supported by the town so it promises to be a fantastic occasion.” Entrants can sign up online at www.helensburghaac.co.uk/2013/06/babcock-helensburgh-summer7.
