Alan MacBeath of Alimacs Tennis, who is a Cardross Tennis Club coach, carried the baton on a leg through Glasgow’s Yoker area on Monday afternoon. The proud youngsters from his tennis club came along to support their coach and brought their rackets with them.

Alan, who is also known as Ali, was selected as a baton bearer in recognition of the role he has played in promoting and developing tennis in the Cardross community and the surrounding areas. He was responsible for initiating a full tennis programme at Cardross Primary and Lomond School and was recently awarded the Lawn Tennis Association Community Coach of the Year award.

Alan took the time to lavish praise on the club’s unsung heroes as he reflected on his community achievements while proudly carrying the baton.

He said: “This is a huge honour.

“Cardross Tennis Club is full of awesome people. Linda Boyd has been a pillar of support and all of the coaches have been inspirational, especially Ross Kennedy and Kat McPhie.

“All that has been achieved would not be possible without them.”
