GLASGOW'S first-footer is beautiful Bonnie Mary Lindsay Petrucci.

The tot, born at 12.05am on New Year's Day at Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, came in weighing a healthy 7lb 7oz.

First-time parents Emma McDonald and Marco Petrucci are delighted with their midnight delivery.

Marco, 32, said: "The baby was due on the 29th, but she obviously wanted to be born in 2018. I was like 'you're at it'."

The couple, who met a decade ago when they were both games testers, arrived at the hospital at around 2-3pm on Hogmanay.

Marco added: "I was the worst out the two of us. Emma was great. She did it with only gas and air and a little diamorphine."

Emma, 29, only needed help at the end and instead found herself dozing off between contractions.

Choosing Bonnie Mary Lindsay for their daughter's name, Emma is carrying on a family tradition.

She noted: "My gran's maiden name is Mary Lindsay, my mum's name is Lindsay and my middle name is Mary. We wanted something Scottish if it was a girl and something Italian if a boy."

The pair are over the moon with their New Year surprise and are excited about parenting.

Emma said: "The nerves have subsided now that she's here and we're getting on with it."

Marco added: "The family can't wait to meet her."

The couple, from Halfway in Cambuslang, wished to thank all the staff at Princess Royal Maternity Hospital for their hard work.

Across Scotland, the first baby to be welcomed into 2018 was born 10 seconds after midnight.

Parents Craig Ferguson and Amy Coull welcomed Harry Ferguson into the world at Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin. He weighed 9lb 8oz.

Following beautiful Bonnie at Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, Laura Brown, 29, had a baby boy at 1.27am, as did second-time mother Pamela McGarvey, 32, at 1.37am.

Elsewhere in Glasgow, Katie Browne and Lynfryn MacKenzie welcomed baby Josefin MacKenzie Browne into the world at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The baby weighed 8lb 2oz after being born at 12.32am.

The first new year baby at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley was a girl at 4.01am.

Mother Karen Boyce, 34, and father Ian McLaren have not yet named the child.
