A TEENAGE girl was rushed to hospital after she was hit on the head with a rock by pupils in a North Glasgow secondary school.

The assault on the 14-year-old is being investigated by Police Scotland after it was reported on Friday afternoon.

The Evening Times understands that the third year pupil was on her lunch break when the attack happened.

She had placed her glasses on her head and was sitting with friends when the missile was launched in her direction.

The rock hit her on the head causing it to split open as the glasses smashed on impact.

A source told the Evening Times: "The blood loss was so bad, the girl could not stand or see in front of her as her face was covered in blood.

"The girl was shaken up and it is likely she will be left with a scar."

The girl's parents were told of the incident and she was taken to a Stobhill Hospital for treatment. Doctors had to glue the deep wound.

Police Scotland confirmed that they are investigating the incident and the Evening Times understands that a pupil was given a day's exclusion.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "At around 2.30pm on Friday, June 1, officers were called after a 14-year-old girl was injured at a secondary school in North Glasgow. She had been taken to Stobhill Hospital where she was treated for a head injury.

"Police enquiries are continuing into this assault."

A Glasgow City Council spokeswoman added: “The school helped administer first aid and will help the police with their enquiries.”
