Linda Dougan Mardell: “Personally I think the Helensburgh people should have had a say.” Victoria Carter: “Art is a very personal choice I find! Some see the beauty in something while others don’t, I think the underlying factor here isn’t so much this piece but the cost of it when there are so many areas in the town that need addressing that the cost could have gone toward!” Zuzka Miles: “I just feel that if you are hoping to create something iconic that should represent Helensburgh, residents should have their say. I do appreciate art, but this sculpture looks cold, emotionless, unwelcoming. Hardly anyone knows who/what it suppose to represent.” Lee Burton: “Now Helensburgh will be known for more than just charity shops and extortionate taxi fares.” Moff Att: “I’ve not seen this installation in person but looking at the photo all I can say is this looks terrible, privately funded or not. It looks like a sculpture based on a child’s drawing.

A bit more research should have been done before handing over 15 grand and if he usually works in brass why change to an unfamiliar medium? The kids in the Craft and Design department of the Academy could have done better.” Clare Newport: “I suppose with any work of art you can’t please everyone, we all have different taste.

“It’s not my taste but I can appreciate the sentiment behind it.” Garry Freeburn: “Iconic waste of money more like!” Damien Quigley: “I have more chance of winning the euro millions tonight than that piece of ‘art’ becoming iconic!” Marina Gray: “I feel a bit sorry for the artist, but it’s just not right!” Kath Watters: “Helensburgh people should have been consulted personally I think it is an eyesore.”
