Sue Glover attacks those hoping to address the social and environmental needs of the Rosneath Peninsula for (in her words) "mentioning, not the benefits of "green energy," but of "Wind Farm Gold" - MONEY." She seems, or pretends to be, unaware that the Community Development Trust was set up by Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council precisely to address the needs of our villages. The community wind farm is our best opportunity to do so. ALL the funds generated will be dedicated to improve areas such as crche/nursery facilities, social/leisure opportunities, affordable housing, transport links, sheltered housing, and those other needs outlined in the Community Action Plan by the members of the community themselves.

There is no shame in such a position. There is still a long way to go and many hurdles to cross, but we hope we can help to provide a better future for our children and grandchildren.

Ms Glover is also worried that our scheme may not be profitable.

There is good news for her on that front. Not only have the directors of the Trust no intention of getting involved in any project that is not financially viable but, more importantly, no bank will ever provide the required capital if there is any doubt as to the scheme's profitability. If she is correct, it is also worth asking Ms Glover, "Where in Scotland are all the bankrupt wind farms?" In a scheme of this magnitude, many participants require confidentiality of the financial information.

This is a multi-national business and companies from the turbine manufactures to the civil engineers and the banks are reluctant to provide information to their competitors.

As Ms Glover does not live on the peninsula, she may be unaware that we have explained this several times at public meetings, and that we have given as much information as we can at those events and in the local newspapers. We have also travelled throughout the area from Arrochar to Dunoon and from Helensburgh to Blairmore participating in open-floor question and answer sessions.

This shows that we are unafraid of honest, open debate.

The directors and members of the Trust are very grateful for the massive support from the people of the peninsula. We are trying their best to provide a prosperous, sustainable future for our villages. Some of our less honourable opponents are trying to prevent that through anonymous letters, lies and misinformation.

These methods should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
