I NOTICE the local butcher in Sincalir Street has a sign outside his shop advertising veal.

I know a lot of supermarkets don't sell veal so I was horrified to see this sign.

Male calves are torn away from their mothers dairy cows just after two days of birth, and those too scrawny for beef are either shot or sent to continental veal farms - 500,000-a-year.

I've seen this first hand, they are kept in stalls, they can poke their heads through to feed (not their mother's milk) but they can't turn round, they can only lie down or stand.

For them to have any kind of exercise would change the colour of their flesh.

They are kept there till the desired weight is reached, they don't roam in fields or play and the first time they will see the sun is when these babies are led to the slaughter house.

Their mothers of course are impregnated every year to keep the supply of milk flowing and the cicle goes on.

We show these babies no compassion, no act of human kindness.

I know now more than ever about the intelligence of animals, is a mouthful of flesh worth the barbarian of the veal crates?

Its time it was stopped, don't look the other way.
