READING through the Advertiser recently it was revealing to peruse the Argyll and Bute Council planning application section.
Permission sought: 1. To paint roof eaves 2. To replace rotten window frames 3. To replace old wooden gate 4. To add decking to side elevation.
Three months of bureaucracy to paint a piece of wood! Meanwhile the Chinese continue to build a coal-fired power station every 10 days and a new city for five million people every eight weeks, whilst we in the United Kingdom continue to apply for PERMISSION just to improve our dwellings.
I forecast, that in 100 years time the people living in Helensburgh will place their heads in their hands and say "it's almost unbelievable, they never saw their demise coming"; and they will probably say it, in Mandarin!
