Helensburgh Amateur Swimming Club swimmers completed round three of the 2016 West District long course age group championships at East Kilbride in style, bringing home medals and breaking three club records.

William Peace impressed on e marked his debut competing at regional level with a personal best, while Caitriona Stewart secured her first gold medal competing at this level – at regional level adding to the two bronze medals won in rounds one and two.

Alexander Johnson secured a further bronze medal to bring his total to one gold and two bronze medals over the three rounds.

William coped well with the challenge of a 50m pool. He swam in the 100m backstroke in the 11 year age group, recording a time of 1.38.18, shaving 2.42 seconds from his previous personal best time and securing a very respectable 14th place.

Stewart, swimming in the 11-year age group, secured first 1st place in the heats of the 50m breaststroke with a time of 41.78 seconds.

She held onto that position in the final, securing her first regional gold medal with a time of 41.67, a 1.23 second improvement on her previous PB.

Stewart also broke a club record in the age 11 and under category with her gold medal winning swim.

Kirsty Trail, also swimming in the 11-year age group, secured 10th place in the 100m butterfly with a time of 1.45.07 – a massive 3.83 seconds improvement on her previous PB.

Johnson Johnson, swimming in the 14-year age group, qualified for the final in the 200m butterfly. He secured second place in the heats with a time of 2.34.20. He finished third but fell back to 3rd place in the final with a time of 2.34.77, earning a bronze medal.

He improved on his personal best time by 1.70 seconds and broke a club record that he had set earlier in the year by almost five seconds.

Johnson also swam in the 200m individual medley, recording a time of 2.36.81. He secured seventh place overall and broke a club record in the age 12-15 age group.

Lastly, in the 50m freestyle, he was eighth with a time of 2.92 seconds, an improvement of 0.58 seconds.

Robert Humphries, swimming in the Male 16 and over age group secured 12th place overall in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1.09.78 – a 1.04 second improvement on his previous PB.
