Three swimmers from Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club were in action at the Scottish National Age Group Championships in Glasgow.

The competition, held at Tollcross International swimming centre over five days, hosted over 1000 of the best young swimmers from over 90 clubs from across the UK.

Making her debut at national level, Caitriona Stewart competed in the female 11-13 age group 50m breaststroke.

She coped very well finishing in 42.16 seconds, less than half a second short of her previous personal best.

She took 50th place overall, an exceptional result being one of the three youngest girls swimming in the breaststroke event.

Kate Storey returned another strong performance at national level despite not being on top form. Competing first in the female age 17 and over age group 50m freestyle she finished in 29.45 seconds, just short of her PB and in 24th place overall.

Her second race of the even was the 50m breaststroke, finishing with a time of 37.28 seconds, again just outside of her personal best time but a very respectable 29th place overall.

Alexander Johnson, swimming in male age 14 age group, competed in seven events, securing places in two finals, breaking three club records and settings PBs in all of his heat races. In the butterfly he swam in the 50m, 100m and 200m events taking 13th, sixth and eighth places respectively in the heats and securing a place in the final of both the 100m and 200m events, finishing eighth overall in the 100m fly.

Alex also swam in the 200m and 400m individual medley, taking 20th and 12th place overall and in the 50m and 100m freestyle taking 27th and 28th place overall. Alex set three new club records over the course of the championships in the club age 12-15 age group 100m and 200m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.
