Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club members put in some eye-catching performances at the South Ayrshire Swim Team open meet in Ayr.

It was a particularly memorable event for Jake Miller and Alex Johnson as both swimmers reached a milestone by breaking the one-minute barrier in the 100m freestyle and broke club records that have stood for more than 16 years.

On the same weekend at Tollcross, Jon Law also broke the one-minute barrier making it a triple celebration for the club.

The success was marked by individual chocolates cakes, recording the swimmers sub 60-second times, made by Barbara Humphries.

The swimmers also smashed a number of personal bests, brought home medals and set six new club records over the weekend.

Kirsty Trail, the youngest of the Helensburgh swimmers, competed in the 12-and-under age group. Swimming in the 100m butterfly, 100m and 200m freestyle and 200m breaststroke, Kirsty took 21st, 29th, 22nd and 23rd places respectively.

She set PBs in the 200m freestyle, with a time 9.93 seconds below her previous best, and in the 200m breaststroke with a time 12.84 seconds under her previous personal best time.

Emily Miller competed in the 13-14 age group. Swimming in the 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 100 and 200m backstroke and the 200m individual medley, Emily took 22nd, 16th, 11th , eighth and 18th places respectively.

She set personal best times in all but one of her events with a significant PB in the 200m backstroke with a time 7.65 seconds below her previous PB.

Alexander Johnson competed in the 13-14 age group. Swimming in the 100m and 200m butterfly, 100m and 200m freestyle, 100m backstroke and the 200m individual medley, Alex secured two bronze medals, three fifth places and one sixth place.

He set PBs in all of his events and set four new club records. Most notably, Alex broke the 12-13 age group 200m individual medley record set by Ewan Bray in March 1999 and the 12-13 age group 100m backstroke time set by Duncan Anderson in September 2004.

Jake Miller competed in the 15 and over age group. Swimming in the 100m Butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m Breaststroke & the 200m Individual Medley Jake secured 5th , 10th, 9th and 8th places respectively. He set personal best times in all of his events and set 2 new club records. Most notably Jake broke the 14-15 age group 200m individual medley record set by Ewan Bray in May 2000.

Robert Humphries also competed in the 15 and over age group. Swimming in the 100m & 200m Backstroke Robert secured 5th & 4th places respectively.
