Helensburgh Amateur Swimming club brought home 18 medals last month at the Ren 96 development meet in Linwood.

Twelve swimmers took part in the two-day event. Medals were awarded up to sixth place, and Helensburgh’s haul included five gold, two silver and five bronze.

Every swimmers obtained at least one personal best time, with a total of 28 PBs set over the course of 34 events. 

In the 9-10 age group, Roisin Kavanagh and Caitriona Stewart took part in two events, securing fabulous personal best times and gold medals in both their events. Competing alongside them was team mate Rachel Stewart, who swam well to obtain a PB.

Also in the 9-10 age group, William Peace swam in three events and secured a medal in each one to end the weekend with a gold, silver and bronze.

In the same age group, Finlay Martin narrowly missed a gold but took silver and bronze. Brothers Ross and Cameron Carmichael competed in four events each, with Ross securing two fifth places and Cameron a bronze medal and a sixth place. 

Youngest swimmers Alice Cumming and Pippa Swigciski, competing in the eight and under age group, performed well, with both girls securing excellent personal best times and Alice securing a bronze medal. 

In the 11-12 age group, Lauren MacFarlane was competing for the first time in an external competition.

She was undaunted and secured a personal best time in all five of her events, totalling an impressive total improvement of 27 seconds.

And swimmer Peter Swigciski, who was also competing in the 11-12 age group, secured a bronze medal and obtained two personal best times.

Kirsty Trail, also in the 11-12 age group, secured PBs in both of her events.
