GORDON Reid couldn't repeat his Wimbledon heroics in last week's British Open as he lost out in the doubles final alongside fellow Brit Alfie Hewett.

The Helensburgh wheelchair tennis star went into the tournament in Nottingham on a high after winning the inaugural Wimbledon wheelchair singles title last month as well as the doubles crown alongside Hewett.

Reid and Hewett once again progressed to the final where they succumbed to a 6-2, 6-1 loss to the French pairing of Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer.

In a repeat of the Wimbledon final the French pairing coped with the difficult wind on centre court better to claim their first British Open men’s doubles title together.

In the singles quarter-final Reid faced Stefan Olsson, who he had beaten just over two weeks ago to claim the title at SW19.

After a close first set the world number two stepped up the pace in the second to power to a 7-5, 6-3 win.

He went on to face Belgium’s Joachim Gerard for a place in the final. But Reid lost out to world number three Gerard of Belgium. Gerard edged through 6-4, 7-6(3) in a tight contest.

Reid said after his semi-final defeat: “I thought I played well, it’s just that Jo played the bigger points a little bit better.

"It came down to a few points, the same as our other matches this year. They’ve all been pretty tight and in the others ones I’ve had the better of him on the big points and he did the opposite to me today.”
