39 Helensburgh senior golfers took to the fairways on Wednesday, September 14 to play in the last of the year’s Midweek Medals.

Alan Raleigh returned the best score of the day with a net 61 off a handicap of 18, now reduced to 16 with further adjustment very likely.

New member, Alan, won the September Medal and became the first of the qualifiers for the 2017 final next year. Runner-up and third were Iain Work and Malcolm Hyatt respectively.

However, Iain Work was the big winner of the day since his score of net 67 was good enough to beat off 15 finalists and take home the 2016 Seniors Midweek Trophy, sponsored by John Andrews Garage Services Ltd.

Runner up was Malcolm Hyatt also with net 67 but losing out in inward half totals.

Malcolm Hyatt was, nevertheless, well compensated by winning the Seniors Aggregate Competition, also sponsored by Andrews Garage, with his two best net scores (64+64=128) from the six medals, beating off challenges from Ian Bennet (131) and Alan Scott (132).

Leading scores were: Alan Raleigh 61; Iain Work and Malcolm Hyatt 68; Ian Bennet 69; John Waddell, Mick Bone, Donald Nicolson, Stuart Latimer and David Lutwyche all 70.

In the Club’s Ladies’ Section, Zoe Kemp (aged 16) from Helensburgh Golf Club was successful in the qualifying round on June 28 at Kilmacolm Golf Club for the Scottish Golf Regional Medal Finals.

She won one of the 12 places in the Bronze Medal Grand Final which took place at Blairgowrie on Sunday, September 11 and despite never having played the course before came second in the competition.
