Rhu Amateurs exited the Scottish amateur Cup in the second round after a 6-1 thumping from 2015 champions Harestanes at Ardenconnel Park last Saturday.

Before the game started there was a minute's silence for former players Donald Fraser and John Wilson.

Rhu started well against their illustrious opponents and there was nothing in the game for the first 20 minutes.

It was obvious early on that Harestanes' Mattie Burns would be a problem for Rhu, and he turned out to be the main difference between the teams.

With 25 minutes gone Burns broke in to the box and was brought down for a rather soft penalt,y and striker Blair Munn made no mistake from the spot.

This upset the home side and shortly after Burns pounced on an error in the Rhu defence to put the visitors two up.

Rhu were trying hard to stay in the game, but it was Burns again who broke through their defence to make it three before the break.

The hosts had their best period of the game at the start of the secon,d half but most of their attempts on goal were from distance.

As they pushed to get back in the game Burns was again caught them out with his pace and he finished with aplomb to get his hat-trick.

Despite the score Rhu didn't give up and came close when Graeme McCallum's effort came back off the post.

Rhu did pull a goal back when a poor pass back deceived the Harestanes goalkeeper and found the net.

But there was to be no comeback as Harestanes reasserted their authority when Burns set up Alan Mackie to make it five.

With 15 minutes to go Burns completed Rhu's misery when he broke away to score his fourth and the away side's sixth to complete the scoring.
