HELENSBURGH'S Paralympic champion Gordon Reid heads the entries for NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters in London.

Four British players, including Paralympic gold medallist and Wimbledon men’s singles champion Gordon Reid and Rio quad singles silver medallist Andy Lapthorne, will compete at the season-ending event starting on November 30.

Tournament success throughout the year has ensured world number two Reid, Lapthorne, Jordanne Whiley and Lucy Shuker will all fly the flag for Britain at the ITF’s wheelchair tennis singles championship at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Reid, who reached world number one for the first time in his career after his Rio success, said: “I know you are only as good as your last match and that the competition will be really intense at the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters.

"I’m just going to knuckle down and work hard to give myself every opportunity to win this title. That would be a dream finale to my year.”

Reid will be one of the favourites going into the event after his most successful year on court. A victory would be his first at the London event.

Competition will be tough in all of the disciplines, with Joachim Gerard (Belgium), Jiske Griffioen (Netherlands) and David Wagner (USA), the respective reigning men’s, women’s and quad champions, all returning to defend their titles.

Meanwhile Reid joined other Olympic and Paralympic stars this week in a parade through Manchester to celebrate British success in Brazil.

More than 150,000 people braved the rain to line the parade route sporting gold hats and waving flags.

The procession started at the Museum of Science and Industry and ended in Albert Square where 400 athletes gathered on stage.

The Paralympians beat their previous best performance performance with 147 medals - 27 more than four years ago in London.
