MICHAEL White and Stuart Buchanan fended off fierce competition to win week six of Helensburgh Golf Club’s Winter League.

Some 100 golfers were out in force on Sunday, but with rules not allowing previous winners to receive the same prize twice, the order of this week’s prizewinners was determined by their past performances.

Michael and Stuart took home the prize hampers this week with a score of 45 stableford points. Terry Smith and Michael Stephens received the second prize despite scoring 47 stableford points and the actual winning score.

Third prize was awarded to Alan Blackstock and Graham Crowhurst with a better inward half of 42 points.

Keeping good scores within the family, Terry Smith Jnr and his partner Steven Walker scored a quality 44 stableford points but past prize winnings put them outside the weekly prize awards.

The team competition continues to be headed by David Tolhurst’s team and the eclectic competition by Brett Loudfoot and John Ward.

The average score achieved this week was 36.6 points.

On Saturday, Paul Duerden took first place with 28 points in the Pro-shop 11-hole stableford with Alan Bell and Ed Somerville in joint second with 25 points.
