Helensburgh junior cricketer Gregor Chambers was awarded the prestigious MB Stanger trophy this week by the West District Cricket Union.

The trophy is awarded annually to recognise a junior from the West District who has made a significant contribution to his or her club both on and off the field.

The WDCU selected Gregor ahead of some stiff competition. On the field he topped the batting averages and was the leading wicket taker for HCC as well as playing representative cricket for the West Warriors.

Off the field he contributes around the club and has been particularly involved in the junior coaching programme.

Club chairman, Graeme Lang, said: "I am delighted to see Gregor be the first Helensburgh player to receive this award. It has been a pleasure to see Gregor grow as a player over the last few seasons and he is an excellent young man to have around the club.

"It's especially nice to see him putting so much back into the club through his efforts with the juniors and I know many of the youngsters really look up to him."

Gregor adds this trophy to the HCC Player of the Year and Players Player of the Year awards he picked up at the end of the season.

He is pictured receiving the trophy from Mike Stanger during a Western Warriors training session last weekend.

Anyone interested in participating in cricket for Helensburgh should contact the Club, or come along to indoor training which will start again the first week in January. Training takes place in Lomond School gym on Thursdays at 1930 for Seniors and Fridays at 1830 for Juniors. All ages and abilities are catered for and welcome.
