Rhu amateurs 3 cambusbarron rovers 3

Rhu's first game of 2017 was against top of the table cambusbarron on saturday and it was to be an exiting afternoon with both teams going for the three points and plenty of goals and chances to keep the large crowd happy.

A bright start from rhu was quickly put to bed when a mistake in the rhu defence gave the visitors a chance and their number 10 gave keeper grindlay no chance after 10 minutes. Cambusbarron were having the best of the play as rhu tried to get in to the game, keeper grindlay made a brilliant save as the visitors looked to increase their lead. Rhu gradually played their way in to the game and eventually got the breakthrough after a goalmouth scramble with a number of rhu shots being saved by the keeper before gary stillwell fired the ball home for the equaliser. Half time arrived with honours even.

Rhu had done well to get back in the game but five minutes in to the second half the visitors were given a gift after another mistake in the rhu defence. It looked bleak for rhu shortly after when cambusbarron's striker had been brought down in the box but grindlay brought of another tremendous save to keep rhu in the game. Adam mcculloch had been brought on at the break and he made an immediate difference when he headed home a perfect stilwell cross to bring rhu level. Rhu were on top now as the game began to open up it was anybody's game at this time. With rhu pushing for the winner cambusbarron caught them on the break to go ahead for the third time. Rhu brought on mccoll and rennie as they they looked for the equaliser. Rhu were pushing forward and mccallum found himself one on one with the keeper but the visitors keeper saved well. Next it was another great save from the visitors keeper with mccoll's perfect header pushed round the post, it looked as if the points were going back to cambusbarron but with time running out rhu found the equaliser. Stillwell's corner from the left was powerfully headed in to the roof of the net by mccallum for a goal both he and rhu deserved.
