RHU Amateurs travelled to face Premier League side Cumbernauld Colts in the cup on Saturday - and the higher level opposition proved too strong as the local side fell to a 4-1 defeat.

Despite a good start to the game from the away side, the clinical finishing of Cumbernauld proved the difference between the sides.

Rhu made several changes from last week’s game against Weir Recreation, and were missing goalkeeper Martin Grindlay, with Connor Alden taking his place.

For the first 25 minutes there was little in the game until Cumbernauld’s number seven was given too much space at the edge of the box and he fired a super shot in to the roof of the net.

If that was a good finish, 10 minutes later it was topped. The home number 10 gathered the ball 25 yards out and hammered the ball in to the top corner of the net giving Alden no chance.

Two chances and two goals left Rhu stunned at the break.

The hosts were full of confidence and five minutes into the second half it was three when a shot from distance deceived keeper Alden.

Rhu were up against it but they rolled their sleeves up and began to create chances with their hosts happy to soak up the pressure and hit on the break.

With Rhu pushing forward, Cumbernauld took advantage again to make it four.

Rhu didn’t give up though and with time running out they got their consolation goal when Andrew Jenkins found the net from the edge of the box.

Team: Alden, Kemp, Johns, Willis, Jenkins, Stilwell, Leishman, Lennie, Rennie, McCulloch and McGillivary.

Rhu are at home to Weir Recreation this Saturday, February 25, with a 2pm kick off.
