HELENSBURGH Hockey Club’s first team hit a magnificent seven last weekend as they dished out a 7-0 hammering to relegation rivals Kelburne.

The tie at Hermitage Academy started with good pressure from Burgh and the captain got on the scoresheet early. A goalmouth scrap ended with Dye in the right place to slot it home neatly with his reverse stick.

Helensburgh continued to dominate the game in the first half and Black in goals was left with little to do.

His one bit of action in the first half came when the Kelburne striker was through one on one. The striker lifted it over the keeper cleverly however G. Caulfield was there in the nick of time to clear the ball of the line.

Midway through the half the home side doubled their lead with a well-executed goal from B. Cox.

Kelburne struggled to get going in the game and Helensburgh took advantage. B. Cox got his second of the game via a rebound off a defender.

As half time approached, Burgh were playing some excellent hockey and soon added to their lead with J. Cox scoring a simple finish.

In the second half a fifth goal soon came when B. Cox completed his hat-trick. A short corner was taken by Kennedy and Cox managed to slot it home past the Kelburne keeper.

J. Cox added to Burgh’s tally with his second goal. It was arguably Helensburgh’s best goal after many one touch passes, the ball eventually found Dye in on the keeper. He slipped it past the keeper to Cox who had an easy finish.

The final goal of the game came from Dye who received the ball and smashed home a lovely reverse stick finish.
