Hermitage Academy last month celebrated after two of their girls netball teams reached the Netball Scotland Scottish Cup Finals - with their S3 team taking the gold.

The schools’ S2 and S3 teams travelled to Ravenscraig in Motherwell where the S2 team reached the bronze final of the Scottish Schools Cup.

The girls played a tough match and narrowly missed the gold medal in a 9-7 defeat against Hawick High School.

Hermitage’s S3 team reached the gold final and played a nail-biting match against Perth Academy.

The first quarter started strong with great play from the whole team and ended with a strong lead of 10-2. Perth Academy were a tough opposition and reduced Hermitage’s lead from eight goals to six after 30 minutes when the score was 19-13.

The third quarter brought a bit of fear to the Hermitage supporters as Perth Academy played exceptionally well and reduced Hermitage’s lead to only three goals, finishing at 25-22 after 45 minutes.

Hermitage got their head back in the game and the defence picked up with Abbie Murray and Anna Sherry picking up some great interceptions and Mia Rooney and Holly Brown making some fantastic shots to end the game with Hermitage winning 37-29.

Head Teacher at Hermitage Academy, Geoff Urie said: “I am extremely proud of the girls for the way they have played all season. To get to the Scottish Cup Final is a tremendous achievement in itself, let alone winning the trophy.

“They have worked extremely hard all season and have shown great quality when playing against extremely good opposition. As Champions of Scotland they will want to continue to work hard and improve in order to retain their title. I wish them every success next season.”
