MALCOLM HYATT took top prize in the McRobert Thistle Stableford tournament at Helensburgh Golf Club with a net 67 for a winning total of 38 points.

Malcolm's round, off a handicap of 18, included six pars and gave him a one-point margin of victory over Liam Hanson (16) and Darren Pearce (10).

Brian Penman, with 36 points and still playing off handicap 27, took fourth.

On Saturday, May 6, the club held May’s round of the Breingan Medal.

Graham Crowhurst (10) emerged as this month’s clear winner with an impressive nett score of 66.

Other results in Division One were: Douglas Willoughby (4) 69; Fraser McCathie (9) 73; Iain Livingstone (12) 74.

Division Two: Murray Waddell (15), Kevin Robb (13) and Roy Nesbitt (13) all nett 69; David Graham (20) 70.

Division Three: Craig Ross Smith (25) nett 72; Jonathan Sturgeon (28) 74; Donald Nicolson (25) 75; Don MacDonald (21) 79.

On Wednesday, May 3, 74 players took part in the Ormond Medal. After count back in Division One, Andy Donald (9) took the honours against Bill MacDonald (9) both scoring nett 67. In third place was Dominic Taylor (7) 68.

Division Two: John Waddell (18) net 67; Colin Reid (18) 70; Malcolm Hyatt (20) 71.

Division Three: Brian Penman (27) gained first place after count back against Norman Rodger (21) both scoring net 72. Jim McRae (26) took third place with net 73.

On Monday, in the nine-hole May medal, Roger Waigh took first place with 21 points, second was Tony Morris, 19, points, and in third came Charles Barbour, scoring 19 points.

On Friday, May 5, HGC held its first Fun Night of the season, 38 members took part in the Norwegian Stableford.

First after a countback were Carol Bews and Ben Canham, narrowly defeated were Ludka Aitken and Howard Turner.

Third place went to another Bews – Mike Bews – and Celia Taylor. This format showed who could throw the golf ball best! The contestants enjoyed dinner in the clubhouse afterwards.

HGC’s Seniors have made a good start to the is year’s McIntyre League. Having won their last two games against Dumbarton and Balmore, they are sitting second in the league table.
