THE ladies at Cardross Tennis Club are celebrating a memorable treble after all three of the club’s teams topped their respective league tables.
The success means the three teams will enter the play-offs for the divisional trophies which take place in August.
Cardross Ladies first team finished the season in style with two 9-0 victories against Broomhill and Helensburgh 2.
First up was Broomhill away. Caroline McDaid and Gillian Branch started out well taking the first two sets 6-1, 6-2, however the third set was a much closer affair going to a tie break which the Cardross pair ended up winning 7-6.
Karen Muir and Carolyn Turk started off with a tie break in the first set, taking it 7-6. After that the momentum was on their side taking the next two sets 6-4, 6-0.
Lorna Brown and Katie Mitchell made lighter work of things, storming through all three sets in record speed and leaving the court with a 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 win.
Their final match was a local derby at home against Helensburgh 2.
Caroline McDaid and Gillian Branch at first couple were solid throughout to win against Helensburgh pairing of Suzanne Marshall and Elizabeth Wylie 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.
Strong play by Caroline Turk and Karen Muir at second couple helped them to a win against the Helensburgh pairing Carol Bews and Fiona Chalmers 6-4, 6-0, 6-3.
Katie Mitchell and Lorna Brown survived a nervy start and finished their final match of the season with a win against the Helensburgh pairing of Joanna Crumless and Valerie Place 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
The first team finished at the top of their table for the fourth year running.
Cardross Ladies 2 had a comprehensive win over Stepps on June 16.
Jill Rooney and Mhairi Stevenson took on Stepps’ very experienced first couple.
The Cardross ladies got off to a flying start with a 6-0 win in the first set. Things became more complicated in the second set when Stepps found their feet.
It wasn’t enough and the next set was again a Cardross win. The Cardross side put their foot on the gas to take the third set.
Well established couple Rona Foster and Catherine Court were never challenged in a flawless 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 win.
Janet Hogg and newcomer Lisa Fowler enjoyed a relatively straight forward encounter in a 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 win.
A 7-2 win over Virgin Active Hamilton puts Cardross in the play-off for the League Division Six title on August 29.
Cardross Ladies third team topped Division Seven after a 6-3 win against Fort Matilda to finish the season.
Gwen Irving and Rhona Gray quickly won their first two sets 6-3,6-1. Their opponents rallied in the third set and were 4-0 ahead, before the Cardross pair stepped up the pace and achieved 7-5 at the finish.
Sara Sullivan and Vanesa Sabala faced two steady players. After losing 0-6, and 2-6, they began to get the measure of their opponents, but finally lost 4-6.
Danielle Gordon and Elaine Clancy had a long three sets but persevered to come through 7-5, 6-2, 6-4.
With all their matches played, Cardross Ladies third are sitting on top of their division and are looking forward to the divisional playoff in August.
