Ardencaple FC’s 2003 squad have thrived this year after pitting themselves against tougher opposition.

Previously competing in the Dunbartonshire Football Development League, head coach Rik Murray decided to give Caple a tougher challenge, and joined the Glasgow and District Youth Football League.

After impressive performances in the early stages of the League Cup competition, the youngsters earned a place in the top league’s Division A.

Competing against some of the best teams in West Central Scotland, Caple found it tough at first and lost their first three opening fixtures.

However they quickly recovered, and finished the season winning 10, drawing two and losing six matches.

Ardencaple also participated in an additional three tournaments during the course of the season. First up was the ESF Youth Festival, a weekend tournament held at Haven in Ayr and involving nine teams overall, coming from Scotland, England and Northern Ireland.

Caple finished third place and were presented medals by Glasgow Rangers stalwart Kenny Miller.

The second tournament took place in Cumbernauld, organised by Kildrum FC and the boys finished runners up, losing to Finnart in the final, the team that eventually emerged as Glasgow League champions.

The third and final tournament of a long, hard season was staged by Milngavie FC as part of a festival of football taking place at the home of West of Scotland Rugby.

A series of solid performances throughout the day proved too much for the opposition and after all their hard work and commitment this year Caple’s highly promising young team were at last rewarded by winning the tournament, defeating the hosts in the final.

This time the medal presentation benefitted from some style and glamour in the shape of Miss Scotland who presented some admiring players with their winner’s medals.

An Ardencaple spokesperson said: “A massive vote of thanks to Joe Hutchinson and everyone involved at Helensburgh Floorplan for their continued support and sponsorship of Ardencaple FC.

“Yet another very generous donation funded a set of smart club training tops for the boys, which they’ll wear to matches and at club events.

“A truly fantastic season for the boys who all appreciate that none of this would be possible without the amazing support that they receive week-in week-out from the Club, its coaches & helpers and, last but not least, all the parents and other family members that form part of the extended Ardencaple FC family.

“Bring on season 2017/18, as Ardencaple FC enters its golden anniversary season, celebrating 50 years since forming back in 1968.”

The club are always looking to attract new players at all age groups, from five to 16-year-old’s.
