The Annual Local Veterans’ Ladies’ Doubles and Men’s Doubles Tournament took place at Craighelen Tennis Club last Saturday.

Despite a gloomy weather forecast, organisers Barbara McCall and Gerry Black were delighted that play was not interrupted and that all who took part enjoyed the afternoon of good tennis.

In the ladies competition, the couples were:

Sue Black and Jackie Morris (Craighelen)

Katie Mitchell and Caroline McDaid (Cardross)

Elisabeth Sammon (Craighelen) and Janette Green (Helensburgh)

Catherine Gould and Julie Dodson (Craighelen)

Lesley McGowan and Eileen Drummond (Craighelen).

The event was played in a the round robin format, the winners of the trophy were Sue Black and Jackie Morris who notched up four wins, with Caroline McDaid and Katie Mitchell runners-up with three wins.

In the men’s competition the couples were:

Harry Gould and Euan McLatchie (Cardross)

Maurice McIntyre and Clive Charters (Helensburgh)

Mark Leonard and Matt Mackie (Helensburgh)

Gerry Black and Lewis Graham (Craighelen)

Jim McGowan and John Middleton (Craighelen).

There were many close matches in this round robin event, with several being decided on the match tie break.

The winners of the trophy were Mark Leonard and Matt Mackie after securing four wins with Harry Gould and Euan McLatchie runners-up with three wins.
