HELENSBURGH Canoe Club is preparing to run two courses to give people the opportunity to get to know more about the sport.

The first of the courses is an Adult Basic Skills Course for those aged 14 and over who have little or no experience.

The course consists of ten pool sessions and a minimum of three outdoor sessions. It is ideal for those doing the Duke of Edinburgh award.

The course starts on Tuesday, September 5 at 7.30pm in Helensburgh Swimming Pool.

The second course is is ideal for people looking to undertake expeditions at sea, for example exploring the islands off the West coast of Scotland.

A minimum basic level of kayaking is required. The course starts on Tuesday, November 14. The course consists of five pool sessions looking at rescues followed by five book sessions in the new year which will look at how to avoid problems in the first instance, equipment, marine features and passage planning.

The club also runs day and weekend trips of various grades throughout the winter and club nights with talks, videos and equipment sales.
