LOCH Lomond Hockey Club’s first team couldn’t capitalise on a strong start as they lost 2-1 at Garnock in the West District Division Two last weekend.

Lomond started well but soon found themselves two down after two scrappy goals for the home side.

Loch Lomond regrouped and defended resolutely for the rest of the game.

The rest of play in the first half was played in the Garnock half with Lomond constantly attacking.

Lomond were awarded a penalty flick and Vanesa Sabala stepped up to expertly convert to make it 2-1.

A combination of hot weather and no subs meant that the away side struggled to counter-attack effectively in the latter stages of the match.

The away side did strike the post but that was the closest they would come.

Player of the match and opposition player of the match was awarded to Hannah White.

Runner-up was Sue Monty Aikman. Thanks to Andy Richardson for umpiring.

Squad: Heather Smith, Kirsty Richardson, Sue Monty Aikman, Zuby Kofi, Lucy Dunlop, Georgina Jackson- Leach, Vanesa Sabala, Hannah White, Kimberley Rijsdijk, Rebecca Lightfoot and Gillian Finch.

* Loch Lomond II couldn’t blow off the cobwebs in a 5-0 defeat to Uddingston III in their opening West District Division Four game.

With new players bedding in and some players in different positions, it took the home side until the end of the first half before they really worked well as a team.

However by that time the damage was done as Uddingston scored four times in the first 20 minutes.

There were some encouraging periods of play for Lomond and the defence worked tirelessly with goalkeeper Emma O’Neill protecting her goal well.

An improved Lomond side threatened in the second half but they could not find the net.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Uddingston brought the score to 5-0.

Tara Jackson won player of the match and opposition player of the match. Hannah Leach was runner-up for a fine performance in her debut match. Emma O’Neill also started the season with some great saves, continuing her good form from last year.

Squad: Emma O’Neil, Jane Neil, Hannah Leach, Anna Currie, Chloe Harrison, Tara Jackson, Kara Kerr, Jenny Tripney, Megan Glover, Molly Macken, Elaine Wotherspoon and Colette Sweeney.
