Craighelen Tennis Club recently held its club championships over three weeks with all members getting the chance to take home some silverware.

Last week’s Advertiser included the main winners from the event including Adam Juster (men’s singles) and Anna Scullion (ladies' singles).

The following players were the winners in the consolation plate events:

Men’s Singles: Kurt Hart.

Men’s Vets Singles: John Middleton.

Men’s Doubles: Gerry Black and Dave Thorpe.

Ladies Doubles: Julie Dodson and Anne Doig.

Mixed Doubles: Lesley and Jim McGowan.

Open Pot Luck Doubles: Sandra Juster and Tam Morris.

Ladies Pot Luck Doubles: Anne Doig and Shenah Dean.

Men’s Pot Luck Doubles: Kurt Hart and John Middleton .

The McRobert Thistle Trophies, awarded to the players who have accumulated the most points in a series of Sunday afternoon tournaments, were won by Lewis Graham and Barbara McCall.

* The autumn season sees the start of the West of Scotland over 40s leagues.

In their first match, Craighelen 2 Ladies hosted Helensburgh 3.

The two couple matches ended in a draw with Helensburgh securing the win on number of games won.

Sandra Juster and Eileen Drummond (Craighelen) played against Joanna Crumless and Sue MacRea (Helensburgh).

The match saw fortunes changing throughout in three very tight sets full of long rallies.

Sandra and Eileen won 7-5, 6-4, 7-6. Alison Fotheringham and Janette Howieson (Helensburgh) proved too strong for Anne Doig and Catherine Gould in a 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 win.

The overall final tally was three sets each, with Helensburgh winning by 33 games to 22.

Craighelen's ladies' first team took on Bearsden's first team and lost out by five sets to one.

Susan Bell and Jackie Morris did well to win one set against strong opponents. Their score was 6-4, 4-6, 1-6. Lesley McGowan and Louise Robertson lost 2-6, 0-6, 0-6.

On Sunday, September 24 the annual Craighelen ladies’ and men’s doubles tournament takes place. Entry forms are in local clubs or the Craighelen website.
