Helensburgh Tennis Club's ladies' first team got their 2017 campaign off to a flying start with a 6-0 victory over David Lloyd West End.

The Helensburgh team, having been promoted to division one last year, were very keen to get off to a good start when they began their 2017 campaign last week and they couldn't have wished for a more positive win.

Karrie Walters and Ann Morison, at first couple, were far too strong for their opposition, collecting all three sets in record time without losing a game.

At second pair Yolande Trewhella and Gay Black encountered far stiffer opposition, with the visitors proving to be a very consistent, steady couple. However Gay and Yolande were not to be outdone and the combination of Yolande's impressive serving and Gay's retrieval skills were just enough to secure all 3 sets 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 and give the team an overall 6-0 victory.

The team's second match was a completely different proposition against a very strong Clarkston side.

Karrie and Ann just kept their noses in front to snatch the first set 7-5 but the Glasgow pair then upped their consistency level to take the second 6-3. With all to play for in the decider, the home pair seemed in control at 4-1 up but Clarkston were not to be denied and staged a fighting comeback to take it 6-4.

Yolande and Gay also faced a quality couple in their match and although they only narrowly lost the first set, the visitors became stronger as the match went on and were able to win the remaining two sets convincingly, leaving Helensburgh with a 5-1 loss on the night.
