A HELENSBURGH army cadet has swum his way to success in the ACFA Scottish Cadet Swimming Championships.

Cadet Monty Jamieson’s passion for sport led him to victory as he scooped three medals at the event held at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

The 14-year-old took gold in back stroke and freestyle and silver silver in the individual medley.

The Lomond School pupil was also part of a team winning a total of five gold and two silver medals, making them the overall junior boys winners and securing their place in the national competition in October, where they will represent Scotland and compete against cadets from across the UK.

The Helensburgh detachment of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion ACF has been attended by Monty for 18 months and offers cadets the chance to take part in a wide range of sports including rugby, hockey, athletics and tug of war.

The Helensburgh detachment meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6.45pm in the AFC Hut on Lomond Street.
