Helensburgh Tennis Club is hosting an after school tennis club in Hermitage Primary School from Tuesday, October 24 for seven weeks.

The class, which is open to all children, will start straight after school and finish at 4.30pm.

The cost is £2 per child and will be taken by head coach Jo Kerr.

Helensburgh Tennis Club’s junior convenor Bobby Kerr said he wants to give as many local children as possible the opportunity to try out tennis.

He said: “We offer the best facilities in the area with seven tennis floodlit courts and a great programme of coaching for all ages, but we can bring tennis closer to our local children by going into our largest local primary school and introducing tennis to a new group of youngsters."

Bobby has a team of parents as helpers to assist Jo. The sessions will introduce the basics of tennis and will include fun games with all equipment being supplied.

There is no need to book – just turn up. If successful, Bobby hopes this could be a regular programme and could extend to other primary schools within Helensburgh.

The club’s new block of outdoor junior coaching gets under way on Monday, October 23. The popular tots' class is on from 1.30pm to 2.15pm, mini red ball from 4-5pm, orange ball 5-6pm, green ball from 6-7pm and the development squad from 7-8pm.

The popular Miss Hits Class, exclusively for girls, is on Thursday afternoons from 4-5pm.

Head coach Jo Kerr will also be putting the adult through their paces on Thursday evenings from October 26 from 7-8.30pm with the adult drills evening.
