Ardencaple FC's 2006 and 2005 age groups had a busy end to 2017, with teams in action all over the west of Glasgow.

The 2006s had a squad of 20 boys split into two groups who played in the Paisley and Johnstone Youth League and the Dunbartonshire Development League.

Both groups performed well in the second half of the season especially the Paisley squad who were unbeaten in this series of fixtures.

Ardencaple 2006s also thanked Wilson’s of Rhu for their continued support.

The 2005 age group had a great ending to 2017, winning their three league games in December to move up to third place in the Dunbartonshire Development League.

The first match was a local derby against Helensburgh which saw Ardencaple dominate the first half, and were well rewarded, scoring five goals and missing a penalty.

The second half was much more even but Caple ran out 7-1 winners.

The second match saw Ardencaple travel mid-week to Dumbarton to play Dumbarton Riverside. Caple, having suffered a home defeat to Riverside, were hoping to pick up the points.

In a very even first half, Ardencaple scored first with a great finish by Murray, but Riverside levelled within two minutes. Caple again took the lead with a scrambled effort following a corner.

Riverside bounced straight back again, but missed the chance to level when they missed a penalty.

The second half was an end to end affair with Ardencaple battling hard to keep the lead.

Going into the last 10 minutes Caple were winning 4-2 but a fifth goal knocked the stuffing out of Riverside and Ardencaple scored more late goals to win the match 7-2.

The last match of the month saw Caple travel to Dunoon knowing victory would secure third spot in the table.

As in the game against Riverside the first half was a very tight affair with Ardencaple turning round 2 1 up at half time.

A quick fire double by Grant early in the second half saw Caple move 4-1 ahead. From then on Ardencaple knocked the ball about with confidence and added five more goals to run out comfortable winners 9-1.

Caple’s Stuart Burch said: “Three excellent team performances saw us win these three games.

“They were difficult at times but with the team battling for the whole game in all three games made a big difference in the team performance.”
