Helensburgh Golf Club members opened up 2018 with with the Dave Loch Pound competition.

Loch, still a club member, created the 11-hole competition, putting up a trophy in the form of £1 for the winner.

It is an annual event for golf club members, with Chris ‘Taff’ Thomas winning this year’s competition.

On December 27 the club also hosted its annual Christmas Cross Country Scramble, with 108 gents, ladies and juniors taking part.

Maria Carling, Angela MacFarlane, Babs Robertson and Gail Waddell came in first with a score of 26.9, and in second place were Stephen Ford, Robert Campbell, John Sharp and Derek West with 28.1.

After a break of three weeks, 22 players returned to action in the Frostbite competition on January 7.

The overall winner with 26 points was Dave Allan, and in second place was David Kennedy with 25 points.

Paul Duerden was the winner of the scorecard raffle winning a Titleist Perma Soft Glove.

A further £11 was added to the hole-in-one pot, which now stands at £252.50.
