A FORMER Hermitage Academy pupil is in boxing action in Glasgow on Friday night.

Hannah Rankin, from Luss, will take on Hungarian Klaudia Vigh in the super-welterweight bout at MTK Scotland's show at the city's Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Rankin will be looking to continue her winning run after beating Ester Konecna at the prestigious York Hall in London back in November to pick up the International Challenge belt.

It will be Rankin’s second eight-round fight, as she looks to build up her endurance.

It’s a big year for Rankin, who combines her boxing endeavours with her day job as a classical musician.

Now based in London, she has three further fights in Scotland this year.

The 27-year-old will also be the first female to fight on an MTK show, as she sets her sights on a Commonwealth or European title by the end of the year.

She said: “I’m buzzing that I’ll be the first one. I’m set up for four fights in Scotland this year and they’re happy to have me on the shows.

“The hope for this year is a European or a Commonwealth title, and I’m not too far off that at the moment.”

Friday night’s card will be headlined by Glasgow’s Marc Kerr and a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.
