Marit Bjoergen enhanced her status as the most successful Winter Olympian of all time with Norway’s 14th gold of the Pyeongchang Games on Sunday.

The 37-year-old claimed gold in the women’s 30-kilometres cross-country skiing event, taking her fifth medal of the 23rd Winter Games and her 15th in all. It was her eighth gold.

Bjoergen won by one minute 49.5 seconds from Krista Parmakoski of Finland, with Stina Nilsson of Sweden third.

The win saw Norway draw level with Germany at the top of the medals table with 14 golds, although Norway have more medals, with 39 compared to Germany’s 31.

The Olympic Athletes from Russia claimed a second gold, as the men’s ice hockey team secured a 4-3 overtime victory over Germany.

Germany had beaten Sweden and Canada en route to the final, but the Russian team proved a hurdle too far as Kirill Kaprizov netted the decisive strike.

Germany had fought back from 1-0 and 2-1 down and looked on course to take the gold medal when Jonas Muller gave them a 3-2 lead, only for Nikita Gusev’s second goal of the game in the final minute of the third period to force overtime.

South Korea claimed two silver medals on the final day.

The hosts were beaten in the women’s curling final as Sweden struck gold.

Anna Hasselborg’s Swedish rink were always in control against the South Korea team nicknamed the ‘Garlic Girls’ and skipped by Kim Eun-jung.

A 3-0 seventh end gave Sweden a 7-2 lead and South Korea conceded defeat after the ninth end.

South Korea’s second silver medal of the day came from the Olympic Sliding Centre, where Germany’s Francesco Friedrich piloted Germany to four-man bobsleigh gold.

Won Yun-jong piloted the South Korean sled to equal second place with Nico Walther’s second Germany sled.

Friedrich also won the two-man gold medal, although that title was shared with Canada.
